Overview

Press Play is an original live performance created in collaboration with juggling trio Cause & Effect Circus, expanding on a one-act piece that premiered as part of Manipulations: An Evening of Live Performances in Virtual Worlds at the 2016 Vancouver Fringe Festival. The show tells the story of three brothers, home for the holidays, reliving their childhood games—which come to life as the objects they juggle drive on-screen animations of their childhood imaginations. On stage, the juggling props appear as everyday household objects, but on screen they transform into spaceships, roller coasters, fish, ninja puppets, and a host of other fantastical worlds. As Creative and Technical Director, I was responsible for all digital content including characters, environments, and effects, and also designed and fabricated 3D-printed juggling props with embedded motion capture markers that connected the live performance to the real-time animated worlds. The show was performed at Animatrik's Performance Capture studio in Burnaby, British Columbia.
